With the Jubilee happening this weekend we have seen packaging designers having a ball of a time firing out limited-editions of our favourite British products in all flavours of red, white and blue.
As fun a project as this might first appear, designers are in fact having to grapple not only with attuning each product with it’s own brand guidelines but also with national and celebratory imagery all without being too kitsch or jingoistic as to lower the brand appeal.
‘One solution is to create non-specific national celebratory imagery, while avoiding muddling the statement with that other national celebration this summer, The London Olympics’, so Design Week discusses in it’s article about the matter.
Such a clever idea!
“I just made these chocolate wrappings as a part of a self promotion task at my University. I thought I would try to stick out as a job seeker and make something fun and eye catching to show my personality and my own original style as a designer. Who doesn’t like chocolate? I Wrote my skills as how I would be to work with as a designer on the back of the wrapper in the ingredients list, along with my contact info and a fun twist with a “Best Before” box that says “Before someone else snaps me up”, like a wordplay at the same time as in snapping up a chocolate bar. Me as a concept is that I am an honest person with honest skills, so at the front of the wrapper it says ” Charlotte Olsen: 100% RAW TALENT”, and on the sides of the wrapper it says “No artificial skills” and “Not factory made” Therefore I chose to print on a textured paper to make it look more “Raw” and natural. Hope you like it. Under the wrapper I put a Golden Ticket that gives anyone “snapping me up” 10% off my hours. ” — Charlotte Olsen
An unbelievably beautiful wedding announcement package by Petito’s Tight Slice.
I adore this branding by WAAITT or We Are All In This Together, a multidisciplinary design studio located in the city centre of Copenhagen, for Serenity Cupcakes.
It’s fun, it’s girly, it’s the perfect vibe for a cupcake shop. The very limited use of pastel colors works surprisingly well, considering most cupcake shops are overly bright and vibrant. This use of subtle pastels makes it looks much more etherial and feminine.
I love this packaging for The Bitter Chocolatier by Miguel Molina Design.
“The brand has an edge. The elegant look contrasts sharply with its ironic humour. Poking fun at himself, The Bitter Chocolatier tells his tales of misfortune throughout his life through the different flavors.”
